Richard Mine

Richard Mine pic

The Richard Mine, a former coal mine, is the biggest contamination source in the Deckers Creek watershed. It contaminates the Richard Mine tributary to Deckers with pyrite, aluminum, and manganese, making the water so acidic that fish and other aquatic life cannot live near it. The metal particulates stain the rocks and edges of the tributary white (from aluminum) and orange (from pyrite).
